Description

The FMI International PhD/MD-PhD Scholarship is a flagship doctoral program offered by the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) in Switzerland, designed for highly motivated international researchers who wish to pursue a PhD or MD-PhD in the biomedical sciences. The program provides a world-class international and interdisciplinary research environment spanning fields such as neurobiology, cell biology, developmental biology, biophysics, structural biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, and infectiology. Doctoral students receive a stipend in line with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) salary scale, approximately CHF 50,000 to 55,000 gross per year under the 2026 scale, paid in 12 monthly installments. A PhD at the FMI typically lasts four years. The working language is English. The program is open to candidates holding a university degree that qualifies them for doctoral admission; a Bachelor's degree alone is not sufficient for PhD admission.
