Open Doors — Russian Scholarship for International Students

The Open Doors Scholarship is a fully funded program sponsored by the Government of the Russian Federation and coordinated by the Global Universities Association. It is designed for international students who wish to pursue undergraduate, master's, doctoral, or postdoctoral studies at Russia's leading universities. Structured as an online academic Olympiad, the program covers full tuition fees, exempts winners from entrance examinations, provides a monthly living stipend, and offers a free preparatory language year for programs taught in Russian. Open to all nationalities, the scholarship nevertheless requires students to cover their own travel, accommodation, insurance, and personal expenses. Eligibility criteria vary by study level: applicants must be between 16 and 23 years old for undergraduate studies, 20 and 33 for master's, 22 and 35 for doctoral, and 24 and 39 for postdoctoral programs. The application process unfolds in several stages (portfolio submission, online tests, and, for advanced degrees, an interview). Applications typically open from late August to early November, with results announced in December for undergraduate and master's applicants, or in February for doctoral candidates.
